We are excited to announce that the Frontier fund is facilitating carbon removal purchases from Mati. Frontier is an advance market commitment to buy an initial US$1B+ (US) of permanent carbon removal between 2022 and 2030. Frontier was founded by Stripe, Alphabet, Shopify, Meta, McKinsey and tens of thousands of businesses using Stripe Climate.

A nod to Our Scientific Rigor
Over the Summer of 2023, Frontier evaluated 132 applications along with 230 pages of technical reviews on selected applications from Frontier’s global network of scientific experts. Our emphasis on robust MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) and dense sampling ensures data-driven accuracy in our models. To this end, we have partnered with the Yale Center for Natural Carbon Capture (YCNCC) and Leverhulme Center for Climate Change Mitigation (LC3M) who have been conducting pioneering research on enhanced rock weathering.
Putting Global South on the carbon removal Map
Climate change impacts are likely to be felt the most in sub-tropical regions of the Global South where some of the most climate vulnerable communities reside. Ensuring that the benefits of carbon removal economics reach these communities is a key part of Mati Carbon’s mission. In the current cohort of companies selected by Frontier, Mati is the only supplier that is a subsidiary of a 501-(C)(3) non-profit working exclusively in the Global South. Mati is using a business model specifically tailored to reinvesting in farmers to enable increased climate resilience. Moreover, initial field deployments have shown quantifiable agricultural co-benefits after applying basalt to rice paddies. Together, the economic benefits of burgeoning carbon dioxide removal market and agronomic co-benefits will be a boon to farmers working in some of the poorest areas of the world.
